Hij ontving onderwijs van de beste leraren die zijn vader kon bieden, maar vond hier geen bevrijding van zijn onvrede. Daarom zocht hij verder, naar religieuze leraren en leerde hij mediteren. Uiteindelijk trok hij zich terug in eenzaamheid, met de intentie om een blijvend geluk te vinden.

Op 35-jarige leeftijd bereikte hij verlichting. Hierna reisde hij door het land om zijn inzichten te delen en het pad naar duurzaam geluk te onderwijzen. Hij had veel volgelingen die zijn leer volgden.

Op 80-jarige leeftijd overleed hij, maar liet een uitgebreide leer achter. Deze toont hoe het leven in elkaar zit en waarom pogingen om gelukkig te blijven vaak falen. Hij benoemde dit in de vier edele waarheden. Tegelijkertijd bood hij een uitweg via het nobele achtvoudige pad.

Its great to be able to go back and read Stokely Carmichael today in his own words. This book provides an excellent overview of what black power means and how the concept originated. Although the book seems a bit dated today, many of the ideas presented are still entirely relevant. Ive only given the book four stars due to its age. Many of the statistics presented are dated, and undoubtedly there are other texts available today that present these ideas in a much better/newer way. But if you are interested in Stokely Carmichael and what he stood for, this is the book to read.

Kwame Ture (fka Stokely Carmichael) changed his name for a reason. However, those of us from the sixties can never forget him nor the name Stokely Carmichael.
